The evidence connecting probiotics to reflux relief is still developing and mixed. The theory is that certain probiotic strains may improve gut motility and reduce bloating or pressure that can contribute to reflux, and some small studies have shown modest symptom improvement, particularly for bloating-related discomfort rather than classic heartburn. Probiotics aren't a direct treatment for a weak LES or excess acid, which are the more common drivers of reflux, so they're unlikely to meaningfully help on their own for moderate-to-severe symptoms. Where they may help more is in people whose reflux is tied to broader digestive discomfort — bloating, irregular digestion — rather than reflux in isolation. As with most supplements in this space, they're reasonable to try as an addition to established changes (diet, sleep position, meal timing), not as a replacement for them.
